Coed Varsity Cross Country · Varsity XC Competes at Bishop Chatard Invitational

The SPXC teams traveled to Indianapolis Wednesday night to compete in the Bishop Chatard Invitational. Due to rush hour traffic, we were cutting it close on time, but the runners didn’t let this phase them as they quickly started preparing to race.

The boys team ran first and were once again led by seniors Steven Schnepp and Karl Egold. The two of them quickly got out with the lead pack and hung on quite well over the course of the race. Steven crossed the line in 2nd place, and Karl fought off some competition to finish in 7th place. Dunkin York, Daniel Johnson, and Trevor Vanihel each raced really well and helped carry the boys team to a 5th place finish.

The girls team was once again one person shy of having a complete team, but they each still had solid performances. Sophomore Sarah Jones had a really strong start to the race, found a pair of runners to cruise with, and held on the entire time to finish in 12th place. Lilly Vittetow and Catherine Hodge each had similar stories, getting out fast and maintaining mental toughness through the middle sections of the race. Ava McHugh made her 5K season debut, and she did so in PR fashion – dropping her previous 5K best by nearly two and a half minutes. Once the girls have all of their runners ready to compete, they should be fairly competitive.

The SPXC teams now have a week off from racing and will not be in action again until Thursday, Sept. 12 at the Clay City Invitational. South Putnam results from the Bishop Chatard Invitational are below.
