Saturday morning the SPXC teams competed at the Danville Hokum Karem – a unique meet where runners are grouped into pairs to compete in a 6 mile race. One person will run a mile and then tag their teammate to run a mile, going back and forth until each person completes three miles for a total of six miles for each pair.
The boys team ran first and were led by seniors Karl Egold and Steven Schnepp. Egold and Schnepp battled back-and-forth with a pairing from Ben Davis until finally crossing the line in an impressive 2nd place. For team scoring, it is based on your top-three pairings. The pairings of Dunkin York / Daniel Johnson and Matt Rogers / Trevor Vanihel finished 48th and 49th to round out the scoring for the boys team.
For the girls, we did not have enough pairings to compete as a team, yet we still had a solid outing in this race. The pair of Sarah Jones and Lilly Vittetow put together a strong performance, finishing in 21st place. The pair of Catherine Hodge and Hope Taylor were unable to finish the race due to an injury to Hope on her second mile. Before the injury they were off to a really good start, so we’re hoping that the injury isn’t anything too serious.
The SPXC teams will next be competing in the Bishop Chatard Invitational on Wednesday, Sept. 4. Full results for the Danville Hokum Karem can be found below:
