Going into this meet, the girls each had two goals: set new personal records, finish higher than what they were seeded. When the meet was over, most of the girls on the team accomplished these goals.
The highlight performer of the meet for the Lady Eagles was sophomore Bree Mahoney-Sutherland. Bree was responsible for 9 of the 13 points the SP team earned. She got things started by finishing 4th in Shot, then she came back in Discus with an eight foot PR to finish 5th. Bree’s success in the WIC meet should give her some confidence heading into the Sectional meet next Tuesday.
On the track, the 3200m Relay team of Samara Young, Grace Burdge, Sarah Jones, and Lilly Vittetow got the team off to a great start with a 7th place finish. Sarah came back a few events later and ran a PR by 14 seconds to finish 7th in the 1600m as well.
Although there weren’t many points scored for the SP T&F team, there were still other great individual performances. Junior Alex Bratcher ran a PR in the 400m by nearly two seconds, and sophomore Ally Menke also ran a season best by three seconds in the 800m. Freshmen Bayli Clampitt and Lilly Vittetow ran like veterans by racing in multiple events despite having been sick the past two days. All in all, this was a decent night of competition for the girls’ team.
The Sectional meet will be next for the SP T&F team on Tuesday, May 14 at Terre Haute.
