It was a hot start to October on Tuesday evening, but the SPXC team didn’t let that stop them from having some strong performances.
In the boys’ race, Steven Schnepp took off from the gates and never looked back. Steven comfortably cruised from start to finish and came away from the meet as the new individual county champion. Karl Egold also got out to a strong start and battled his way to All-County honors by finishing in 6th place. Dunkin York steadily moved up throughout the race, keeping his focus on the top-7. By closing hard the last mile, he came away with the final All-County spot and the only freshman in the top-7. Smart racing by Matt Rogers and Daniel Johnson helped to shore up a strong 2nd place finish for the boys team.
Although the SP girls did not have enough runners to compete as a team, that didn’t mean there wasn’t anything at stake. Sarah Jones and Lilly Vittetow got out hard at the start while looking to earn a spot in the top-7. Sarah stayed in contact with the top-5 the entire race and moved up to fifth over the last K of the race. Lilly was battling with a Greencastle runner for the final spot for All-County, and her strong move over the last half mile helped her to finish in the top-7.
Congrats to all five SP All-County runners!
The SPXC teams will next be competing in the WIC meet hosted by Edgewood on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 10:00 AM. Complete results for the Putnam County meet can be found below:
