It was a great morning for the South Putnam runners competing in the Ben Davis Regional on Saturday morning, and there were many new PRs established.
Steven Schnepp continued his quest to improve each meet and ran an outstanding race, finishing in 9th place in a time of 16:00.00. Although he was disappointed with being a hundredth of a second off of going sub-16, he and his coaches were certainly pleased that he earned a chance to try again next week. Steven’s been working hard each week, and that work has clearly been paying off. Also running a new PR was freshman Dunkin York. Dunkin had a very difficult week, but he came to the race ready to compete. Reading off of senior leader Karl Egold, Dunkin was able to push himself from start to finish and come away with a new PR of 18:00, just one second behind Egold. Dunkin and Karl ended their seasons with efforts they can certainly be proud of.
In the girls’ race, Sarah Jones was the lone Eagle competing. Her biggest goal going into this race was to simply run a new PR. However, this was also her first time lining up to race without any of her teammates. She didn’t let that phase her, as she got out of the gates fast and didn’t back off the entire time. In the end, she came away with a PR by nearly 20 seconds. Like Karl and Dunkin, Sarah was able to end her season on a positive note and an effort she could be pleased with.
Steven will next be competing Saturday, Oct. 26 in the Shelbyville Semi State. Complete results from the Ben Davis Regional are below.
