Meet Recap

Our #1 doubles competed in the Individual Sectional against Southmont on Saturday. Despite the loss to Jack Reimondo and Reese Long (3-6, 3-6) Austin and Tanner played to win every point, and never gave up. Even when they were down in the second set after they lost the first, they continued to play to win every point, which has been the mainstay of the team this season. Tanner improved tremendously in consistency with his ground stroke, along with changing up his speed and spin on his serves, which kept his opponents guessing. As a sophomore, he performed with a poise and maturity that not many sophomores possess. Towards the end of the season, Austin was becoming more consistent with his first serve, improved his ground stroke’s consistency, and was a brick wall at the net. With his height and reach, it was hard for our opponents to find an opening. They both possess amazing hand speed and foot speed and I’ve enjoyed watching some of the incredible points they have won. With a record of 13 and 4, we will be fortunate to have them back next year. It’s been an incredible season, and I can’t thank the team enough for all that they have accomplished, and for their efforts. I believe it will jumpstart our program. As I told them before, next season starts now. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Banner Graphic and Joey Bennett for the great job they do in covering Putnam County athletics.

Meet Recap

What an exciting night of tennis ! Congratulations to Crawfordsville. #1 and #2 doubles made quick work of it, playing some really good tennis. We will greatly miss #2 doubles, Seidler and Emmerich–can’t thank them enough for all they’ve contributed to the tennis team. It will be a big challenge for the rest of the players to fill their spots. #1 doubles playing extremely well; they will play again this Saturday in Crawfordsville in the individual regional tournament, time TBD. Garrett Heavin gave his best effort, but fell to an extremely talented #3 singles player, undoubtedly the best player on the Crawfordsville team. #1 singles and #2 singles started out extremely well; both lost the second set, to split sets. They couldn’t quite get it back together, but extremely proud of their effort, as they fought to win every point. I can’t say enough about this season; every match was exciting; these young men are a great group of guys to be around. Proud to have brought to the school its first sectional championship in boys tennis. I’m looking forward to the future of tennis at SPHS. Again, can’t say enough about the support we have received from administrators, faculty/staff, and the community. We have the best parental support and I can’t thank them enough for raising such wonderful young men. I’d also like to thank my wife and children for being such great supporters.

Meet Recap

Wow !! What a match !! I am so full of Eagle pride that it’s unbelievable. #1 singles had a tough time of it; played really well, but came up short; had a tough match against a very talented opponent. Despite being ill the day before, #2 singles gave it his all. #1 doubles played extremely well, continued to improve and communicate, and played with confidence. Being down 2-1 as a team, we had to have the #1 doubles and #3 singles positions. #2 doubles started off slowly due to nerves. They settled down to win the second set, and rolled on to win the third. As the team score was tied at 2 all, it came down to the #3 singles. After losing the first set, Heavin won in a tiebreak, to split sets. With the match in his hands, he kept his composure and pulled out the third set in another tiebreak to seal the team win. Kudos to Coach Rowe and the Tiger Cubs. Looking forward to tomorrow night, as we play the winner of Northview and Owen Valley.
