In their first meet back from the holiday break, the swim teams swam well but ultimately lost in a match up with the Brebeuf Braves at home last night. The boys’ swam a competitive meet but lost 80-94; the girls’ team fell 64-111. Even after a difficult few weeks of training, the athletes swam well and many still managed to better or equal their lifetime best swims. Seeing particular improvement was Levi Gibson, who dropped significant time in each of his events. Levi’s time in the 50 has improved by over 6 seconds and his 100 backstroke by over 12 during the course of the season. We also saw outstanding performances by Aubrey Bennett in the 100 free, dropping almost 4 seconds from her lifetime best, as well as from Dunkin York, who dropped over 4 seconds from his personal best 100 breaststroke time to win the event. Congratulations to the following athletes who also bettered their PRs:
Josie Hutcheson: 200 free
Haylee Romalia: 200 free
Gillian Jones: 200IM, 100 back
Craig Robinson: 200IM
Caitlyn Phillips: 50 free, 100 fly
Marcus Robinson: 50 free
Grant Cordell: 100 fly
Alex Steffy: 100 free
Zion Harris: 500 free
First place finishes for the evening went to the following: Evan Steffy in the 200 and 100 freestyles; Grant Cordell in the 200IM; Drew Steffy and Lee Haywood for diving; Samantha Jones in the 500 freestyle; Dunkin York for the 100 breaststroke; and the Mens’ 400 free relay team of Cordell, Harris, Cunningham and Steffy.
