Varsity Baseball · Fourth Inning Plays Key Role In Blow Out Over Cloverdale


The Eagles knocked in five runs in the fourth on their way to an 8-1 victory over Cloverdale in the first round of Sectional play on Wednesday. South big bats were led by Hayden SwitzerDylan Crum, and Tanner Pistelli, all driving in runs in the frame.

The Eagles got on the board in the first inning when Jackson Wood singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.

Cloverdale knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the second inning. Blevins grounded out, scoring one run.

South pulled away for good with five runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Switzer singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs, Crum singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, and Pistelli singled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.

Wood took the win for South. He surrendered one run on one hit over seven innings, striking out nine and walking one.

Watts took the loss for Cloverdale. He went three and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and striking out two.

The Eagles saw the ball well today, racking up 12 hits in the game. Aidan LeBlancWoodPistelli, and Switzer each racked up multiple hits. Wood and LeBlanc each collected three hits to lead South Putnam.

Jackson went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead Cloverdale in hits.
