South Putnam fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 14-3 loss to Plainfield on Saturday. Plainfield scored on a double by Jacobs and an error in the first inning.
The Eagles struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Plainfield, giving up 14 runs. The Quakers fired up the offense in the first inning, when Jacobs doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.
South tallied three runs in the second inning and put the pressure on, lead by a single by Hayden Switzer and a groundout by Trey Long.
Plainfield scored eight runs in the sixth inning. Heath, Mitchell, Nichols, Sims, Baker, and #16 all drove in runs in the frame.
Gierke was credited with the victory for Plainfield. He lasted two and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and three runs while striking out four and walking one. #26 threw three and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Branden Demoret took the loss for South Putnam. He went four innings, allowing six runs on three hits and striking out six.
Switzer went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the Eagles in hits.
Plainfield tallied ten hits. #16, Heath, and Jacobs each collected multiple hits for Plainfield.
