Girls Varsity Tennis · End of the Road for Girls’ Tennis

The Eagles’ final match of the season was played last night on the courts at home as the girls’ tennis team attempted to upset the Owen Valley Patriots in the first round of Sectional play. South Putnam lost the match 1-4. Coach Briones was nothing but positive as he reflected on his players’ season:

“I’m proud of the way the girls performed tonight; they lost to a talented Owen valley team. Great to get a win at 3 singles; Stephany has improved leaps and bounds since the start of the season.  Kaylee Hubbard, 2 singles, will be returning next year—playing with more and more confidence and I’m looking forward to having her back. This was the first season together for 2 doubles (Robinson being a first time player), and both improved very much during the season. I’m looking forward to having them back as well. Going to miss my three varsity seniors tremendously; 1 singles DeVreede (also my lone all conference selection) has contributed so much to the team; she made some of the other girls better players. 1 doubles Blaydes and Ladd struggled at the beginning of the season, but after a few matches became more aggressive, confident, and were very exciting to watch. These seniors along with senior JV player Becca Perry displayed hard work, great attitudes, and led the team as seniors should. With the number of underclassmen this year, I’m looking forward to next season.”
