Girls Varsity Swimming · Girls’ Swim Team Wraps up Season at Sectional

The girls’ swim team traveled to Plainfield both Thursday and Saturday for Sectional competition. South had girls swim fast enough on Thursday to make it into the finals in 7 of 8 individual swimming events, an improvement over last year when the team had only 2 individual top 16 swims (only the top 16 score). The team score reflected this, as the Eagles scored almost 30 more points this year than last. The weekend was filled with lifetime-best swims, including the following:

Sammi Jones: 200 free (11th place), 500 free (9th place), 100 free

Christina Marcum: 200 free

Morgan Dixon: 200 free, 500 free (a 21 second time drop!)

Masey Chambers: 200IM (15th place), 100 back

Abby Teipen: 200IM, 50 free, 100 breaststroke (12th place)

Ally Menke: 200IM

Alex Fanning: 50 free, 100 breaststroke (besting her own school record, finishing 8th)

Angelina Becker: 100 fly

Brittany Hodge: 100 fly

Tawney Buchanan: 100 fly

Evvie Timberman: 100 free (11th place); also finished 12th in the 50 free

Keira Wells: 100 free, 100 backstroke (15th place)
