This past Saturday the boys and girls cross country teams each wrapped up their seasons at the Ben Davis Regional Meet. The boys’ team finished in 9th place, and the girls finished an impressive 6th place despite many injuries. Between the two teams, there were three individual Semi State qualifiers- Austin Rumley, Chelsie Edwards, and Lillie Stein.
In order to advance, these three individuals had to compete against some strong competition. Austin got out to a strong start and never backed down. He battled well and stayed in the top-15 to earn his spot to the Semi State meet. Chelsie Edwards had a similar approach with the same results: a strong start and held fast to earn a qualifying position. Lillie Stein really had to work to earn advancement. Going into the race she was on the bubble, but Lillie ran with determination and never let herself fall out of position. In the end, her hard work, like Austin and Chelsie’s, earned her a chance to advance as well.
Others on the team had great races as well. Steven Schnepp rolled quite well throughout the race, and he and teammate Karl Egold just missed being among the qualifiers. Samara Young also did a great job of getting out fast and running with strong competition. This was one of her best races of the year.
This meet was the last race for the SPXC teams, but fortunately it’s not the end of the season. The Semi State meet will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21st at 10:30 AM in Shelbyville, Indiana.
