The boys’ varsity basketball team wrapped up its season this past week in the first round of sectional play coming up three points shy against North Putnam.
The athletic program would like to thank Coach Burgess and his staff, as well as the boys, for their perseverance and determination to improve throughout the season. Overcoming obstacles that would have deflated most teams, the Eagles stood tall, got better, and competed well!
Coach Burgess had this to say; “The boys’ basketball team finished its season with a hard fought 60 to 57 loss to North Putnam in the first round of the sectionals. Trey Moore led the way with 30 points and 13 rebounds for the Eagles. The Eagles finished the season with a 4-16 record. For the varsity team, Trey Moore led the Eagles in scoring (20.0 points per game) and rebounding (8.0 rebounds per game). Jake Schroer finished the season as the teams second leading scorer averaging just under 7 points per contest. The team showed great improvement as the season went along. The goal this year was to continue to improve and get better each and every day. By the end of the season the boys were playing their best basketball of the year. The Junior Varsity team led by Coach Gardner finished its season with an impressive 10-8 record. Both teams had an outstanding year in terms of work ethic, desire to get better, and dedication to each other and South Putnam.”
